AGR was one of the founding operators in Germany's dual waste management system. On behalf of the dual system specialist AGR subsidiaries collect and sort packaging materials with the green dot, which households place in yellow plastic bags. In one of Germany's biggest sorting plants, with an annual capacity of over 40,000 tonnes, the packaging collected by more than 1.2 million people living in the central Ruhr area is then sorted and prepared for recycling.
For a wide variety of re-usable waste, such as polystyrene, scrap metal and lead batteries AGR has collection systems at its transfer stations and landfill sites. Such waste is then consolidated into larger quantities and sent to specialist recycling facilities. With its logistics operations and sorting plants the AGR Group has the facilities, in particular, for the recycling of paper and cardboard from commercial sources.
