Since 1998 the IMK plant in Herten has been processing an annual quantity of 18,000 Mg organic waste, using the new process for integrated methanation and composting. The organic parts of the waste are converted to high-quality compost and biogas by a combination of different biological processes. The gas is then used to produce electricity and heat.
